And the role model of the day is……..(drum roll)……SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS!!
In case you aren’t aware of the fantastic contributions of this little guy, he is not what he appears to be on the outside: just a silly cartoon character that small children enjoy watching, while their parent’s tear their hair out attempting to convince them to watch something….ANYTHING else (ex: my sister’s life with her toddler’s Spongebob obsession).
Many might see this cartoon as crude, rude, or socially unacceptable; but as a child who grew up without cable television, I was unknowing of the small yellow sponge until my mid-teen years, when his optimism was a ray of golden sunshine in my deeply dark, adolescence phase. I give my beloved readers (if there are any), a list of why Spongebob Squarepants is actually one of the best role models of today:
- OPTIMISTIC, POSITIVE, (and any other similey thingskind of you might think of): While everyone has a bad day (even cartoon characters) it is amazing how resilient this small sponge is! With a grumpy neighbor constantly shooting down his attempts at friendship (Squidward), a best friend who doesn’t really know much about him at all (Patrick, as seen on the episode, “You Don’t Know Sponge”), a boss who makes him work overtime without pay, or any number of the citizens of Bikini Bottom who don’t appreciate his enthusiastic and outgoing personality, there isn’t an episode that goes by where Spongebob can’t turn a completely terrible day, into a great learning experience that he can smile at. He will always try to make friends (despite their multiple attempts to shun him), and he will always make it a glass-half-full kind of day. Even as a teen, this was a great lesson for me (I’m sure most of us go through a dark phase, but it was shocking to me just how much a cartoon could teach me life lessons!)
- LOVE AND PASSION FOR WORK: Now, many of us have jobs that we hate, but even for those lucky people such as myself, who absolutely adore their job and take the up-most pride in it, tend to get sick of working every now-and-then. We have bad days, bad weeks, terrible co-workers, or bosses, maybe our work load is overwhelming, or we just need a day off to ourselves. But even when work gets tough, when his co-worker yells at him, or when his boss extends his shift to 23 hours straight with no breaks and no pay, Spongbob lights up with passion and joy, for the simple pleasure that it brings him to make his town’s most delicious meal; and lets face it, most of us love a gourmet burger every now and then, but few of us would be ecstatic to flip those burgers all day for minimal pay and grumpy customers. It is a rare thing for a person to be consistently passionate about their work, but it’s a great thing that Mr. Squarepants shows our youth (and even adults like myself) that it is possible to be a great employee daily, and that there are great rewards that come with hard work and persistence, including, an overall happier life.
- Innocence: While we all want children to cling to their innocence, the world makes us grow up rather quickly and quite brutally too. Everyone’s story is difficult in one way or another, however, it is important to remember that not all of our bad experiences in life have to lead to corruption or dysfunction. Obviously it is easier to keep your innocence when there is a script writer creating your life, but it is not impossible to do so yourself; which is a valuable lesson to today’s youth.
- The Importance of Making a Difference in the World: There are many great causes to contribute to in today’s world, but whether or not people take initiative to do so, is another story. Through Spongebob’s busy life of work, play, and hobbies, there is also contribution. One large example of this, is demonstrating the passion he has for the environment and its preservation, conservation, and protection. We see this through one episode called “Spongebob’s Last Stand”, when Plankton convinces the city to build a ‘super highway’ through Jellyfish Fields, which will inevitably push the wildlife out of their habitat and destroy the environment. To save and conserve, Spongebob convinces his friends to peacefully protest to save Jellyfish Fields, and after the city sees the destruction that the construction and pollution causes, as well as the result of the wildlife having no where to go but into the city (kind of like Alaska and the bear population), the natural environment of Jellyfish Fields is restored when the highway is torn up, and the habitat is restored. Way to take control and to do your part to help the world SB!! 😀
Ultimately, there are many skeptics and several negative rumors about the cute children’s show; but as an adult who has learned life lessons, and how to make my life better from a sea sponge, I am making a personal recommendation to strive to learn all the benefits of watching the super silly show: Spongebob Squarepants.

Good evening friends! How wonderful of you to stumble upon my smallish blog ^_^. Tonight’s random collection of thoughts begins (and I say begins because it will probably end up somewhere totally different) with a sore spot in all of us. Human nature says its normal, but it never really feels that way does it? Cover the kids eyes and plug their ears!! JEALOUSY!! =o
Now as a woman, I almost feel more prone to this sour pill that we all choke on. And ESPECIALLY being a pageant girl and experiencing the modeling industry, I am very frequently nurtured into the nature of envy! But unfortunately, jealousy and similar soul-crushing emotions are in every culture, at every age, in every work place. Like a seedling that receives the perfect amount of water, heat, and light; our culture provides the exact essentials needed to develop our small insecurities, into thriving giant green monsters! And not the good kind that filter carbon dioxide and release oxygen. But lets face it friends, it’s not just our society that pushes our envy to the max, it’s in our very DNA.
Human nature tells us to judge, which comes from our primal instinct to size up our opponents to calculate our odds of survival and likely-hood to attract mates to reproduce. While that’s no longer a vital necessity to survive or mate (at least not to the extent) you cannot expect a fish to survive solely on land.
The silly thing is, that we’ve all heard the tips and tricks on how to stop jealousy dead in its tracks and even how to handle people who target us with their own jealousy; but very few of us take the advice. What I’ve realized, is that the important thing to remember, is consistency is key! We have to retrain our brains by constantly reminding ourselves that comparison to other people is not only unhealthy, but extremely unnecessary. I truly believe that everyone is uniquely beautiful and that everyone, even supermodels and pageant queens, have their very own insecurities and jealousies. Let’s keep that in mind the next time we harshly judge someone 😀 I definitely know how difficult snapping yourself out of those thoughts can be, but one of my favorite things in life is self-improvement! My recommended reading for the day is: Self-Improvement 101: What Every Leader Needs to Know, by John C. Maxwell !!! 🙂 Or just visit my favorite section in Barnes& Noble: the Self-Improvement section! 😀
UNRELATED! Some personal reviews:-) I have recently stumbled upon some great documentaries on Netflix! If you’re in the mood for a tearjerker, watch Blackfish. One day I will work up the courage to watch it, but it has great reviews, and is about the Killer Whales that are victims of performing. Captured, and forced to dance, this looks like a sad one!
A documentary that I have watched, however, is ‘I Escaped A Cult’. Though it is pretty intriguing, there are only two stories and they could have been drastically worse. The ordeals gone through by the two individuals were no doubt unfortunate, but they always had a choice to leave, as the only threat to leaving the ‘cult’ was that God would not approve. My rating: 3 stars out of 5.
RoseMary’s Baby is a movie that I stumbled upon which is a thriller-ish type movie that had really good ratings. I should’ve paid attention to the menu which implied that it was a two-part movie. It was a decent movie with a good plot and great actors, though there were some loose ends and it was reeeeeeally long. I give it 4 our of 5 stars 🙂 and since I absolutely adore horror movies and thrillers, I am extremely excited for the movie Unfriended to come out! Even if it does look slightly cheesy, it looks new and interesting! 😀 A link to the trailer is below 🙂

Hey there guys! What a crazy busy and occasionally stressful life we have here right?! Even so, a hilarious show I have recently discovered [as of tonight] called Camp on NBC has reminded me that being positive, even if its completely sarcastic and unmeant [is that a word?],can make a friend laugh, causing you to laugh or the old-fashioned make yourself laugh! I’m good at that one because I often have wild conversations with myself…don’t lie, you do too. Another thing I’ve been reminded of was to give everyone a chance to be someone in your life that tries [within reason, I’m not promoting stalker relationships and such]. But maybe that guy who messaged you only wants to talk….be your friend. Maybe not everyone on facebook thinks your as hot as you do so chill! Haha I hate to be a cleche but…be beautiful on the inside. It’ll get ya a lot farther mah dear ;). And for those of my male readers, correct me if I’m wrong! But I am a woman, therefore genetically engineered to always be right ;D haha.
On another note! A Giani Bini fashion show was held last Saturday featuring yours truly and I got to wear some FANTASTIC designs…maybe even bought some!.[crappy photo attached] =O Related to fashion is the promo modeling I was doing for CFD [Cheyenne Frontier Days] is now non-existing because we didn’t have enough drop dead gorgeous ladies to satisfy the customer but not to worry, there shall be more! And on an entirely UN-related note I won NOTHING on the new Snapple promotion of buy a half n’ half and win…nothing! 😀
Sooo everyone make your way to all the CFD events because more than likely, I will be there loving it up! Remember if ever you are a person in the industry, hit up my facebook https://www.facebook.com/ModelHayleeSauerwine and we’ll chat. If you are an avid reader….or just a reader at all that has an idea of what you’d like to read about, post a comment and I’ll see what I can do with it!
PS. I love watching American Dad but it always trips me out when they shout ‘Haylee!’….they probably spell it Hayley anyway….
Well my dear audience, unless you live under a rock…….unlikely:-)…..then I am sure that you’ve heard of the ever-so-stunning Miss Utah 2013 Marissa Powell’s final interview question/answer (link below). (If you’re not into pageants, bear with me, more un-related posts shall come ;)).I realized while watching the live Miss USA pageant, that not even a quarter of the way through, she was headed south…. I knew after her first sentence that she would be deemed the new Miss South Carolina Teen USA 2007 Caitlin Upton; and judging by the headlines, that’s what everyone else thought too.
….A couple of notes to these two final question mistakes….Miss Utah is stating the same thing that Miss South Carolina Teen stated in the past: ‘I was so nervous that I didn’t even hear the question’….Which is actually MORE common than not and is pretty common for state-level pageants. These lovely ladies are well-known as educated and outstanding citizens; however, unlike any ordinary outstanding citizens, they are public figures as well [note to self, eh?]. Majority of the population could not, and WOULD NOT answer a question concerning personal opinions of national issues in front of MILLIONSSSS OF PEOPLEEEEE….in fact most people wouldn’t even utter their name in front of that many people…Props to my pageant girls for having the lady balls to do that and more! 🙂
…Second thing….. Caitlin Upton is now more famous and successful than she could have ever been without her nation-wide mistake. Before…a small town pageant girl….after…a successful model and public figure. Also after the final question mess-up, she has been busy with appearances on shows such as TLC’s King of the Crown, Tosh.0, and Rob Dyrdek’s Rediculousness; also appearing in Weezer’s music video Pork and Beans; and receiving invitations to events such as the MTV Music Awards….doin pretty good for herself, yeah? 😉 Clearly we all need to make huge mistakes that accidentally boost our careers….if only it were that easy for all of us… But if life gives ya lemons…make some lemon meringue pie!!! And do remember to share, I love pie. 🙂
Anyway for those of you who didn’t read my last post (I am very disappointed in you) this cosmetic dentistry is now a monthly visit to Salt Lake City Utah for a beautiful result from some of the best cosmetic dentists in the US! The lovely people who are improving my teeth (not that my teeth were awful before :P) for my modeling are the very same that work on pageant queens and models all over the country, and the very same people who worked on Miss Utah USA 2013’s gorgeous pearly-whites 😉
Reporting to you live from Midvale, Utah! Why here, you may ask? For some lovely cosmetic dentistry (ie. teeth whitening, smile perfecting…) courtesy of Presley Orthodontics!
Now! Pros and cons to the trip down here…..Pro: I ❤ ROADTRIPS!!!…..Con: I get motion/car sick relatively easily. Slightly contradicting? Yes. Preventable? Maybe. Solution? Ibuprofen!…other suggestions also welcome 🙂 Anyway! Another pro: six whole hours of jamin to the iPod…..Con: over 48 hours without my loves: my babies Thor, Dutchess, and the show: Jerseylicious. But I should be back by Friday afternoon with a brighter smile!
In the mean tome, try to catch the latest national commercial I am in for the ever so fantastic clothing store: Plato’s Closet! Also take a peak at their fun website! 😉
On an entirely unrelated note, I have lost all respect for MTV’s True Life thanks to their new episode: I’m too beautiful…..unfortunately, not only were the people on the show not an overwhelmingly perfect sight to see (as I personally believe that is an absolutely absurd thing to say), but their personalities made them more unattractive than not.
Also unrelated, the new movie: The Purge was not as good as I expected it to be….the previews were cooler, though it was an awesome idea for a movie!!….now enough criticism on things that don’t matter 😛
